Transformation
- Translation is a way of transforming in a direction without changing the shape or size
- A translation flipped across a line of symmetry is called a reflection
- Point symmetry is when a figure is rotated 180 degrees around a point
- The center is called the point of symmetry
- Rotation is when the figure keeps it's shape and size but is rotated a certin amount of degrees
- An operation that combines two transformations is called a composite transformation
Similarity
- An enlarged or reduced figure is similar to the original figure
- The symbol for similarity is "∼"
- (Triangles Only!) If the ratios of the lengths of all corresponding sides are equal it is similar
- (Triangles Only!) If corresponding two angles equal then they are similar
- (Trianges Only!) Ratio of the length of corresponding sides and included angle equal it is similar
Square numbers and Roots
- The result of squring a whole number is called a perfect square
- The symbol for square root is "√"
Pythagorean Theorem
- The ratio of opposite sides in a right triangle with the angles 90, 30, and 60 degrees is always 2:1:sqrt 3
- The ratio of opposite sides in a right triangle with the angles 90, 45, and 45 degrees is always 1:1:sqrt 2
- If the two side on a right triangle are 3 and 4 the length of the hypotenuse is 5
Inscribed angles
- An inscribed angle has one half of the angular measure of a central angle that subtents on the same arc
- If two inscribed angles subtend the same arc length in the same circle then they are congruent
